Whenever new data is available, the database magically notifies all its listeners that new data is available to use. During this type of communication, each of the devices involved either plays the role of the database (known as peripheral in Bluetooth Low Energy terminology) or a listener (known as central in Bluetooth_Low_Energy terminology) of that database updates. On the other hand, communication over Bluetooth_Low_Energy can be abstracted away as interacting with a really intelligent database.
